All About Me

Sometimes kids struggle to assert themselves because they fear what others will think of them. It can be easier to hide out in the back of the class than to show your true colors. For many kids, quiet is safe.

Creating an All About Me board helps bring kids out of the safety zone a bit. I can’t tell you how many kids have sat on my couch and claimed they had absolutely nothing interesting to share, only to find out months later that they participate in junior guards, take fashion classes, or know a thing or two about computer programming. Many kids need a gentle push when it comes to describing their strengths and interests, but when they finally step out of that comfort zone and start sharing, they really begin to shine.

Help your child make a poster or a diorama that describes his personality, interests, strengths, dreams, and goals. Talk about it. Share it with family. The process of drawing out strengths in the safety of your home will help your child begin to share those strengths in more challenging settings.
